Why not burn it all?

Looking back over all the reason some books were band was ... discomforting because half the reasons were stupid, to be blunt. Bad language, sexual ideas, it has witch craft? Really? What about this? It has witch craft but its not attacking any religion, why pick it up then why burn it, its not attacking anyone, its simply just a fantasy novel. No more no less. Who doesn't dream about having powers? Some people take things to far and i believe that they do it out of fear. People need to open their eyes and minds and see that some books are not promoting witch craft nor are they attacking anyone. They are there for amusement. If witches are such a big deal then why not burn twilight? I looked around and granted maybe i didn't look hard enough but i saw churches burning harry potter but not twilight, Why? Vampires and a girl falling in love with one? Ok so i'm sure one could say that was representational of a girl falling in love with a deamon or beast right? Some people are irrational in my opnion and dont make sense, but thats the world and you must take it as it comes.

Fahrenheit 451 first thoughts

To be completely honest i found this book a little dry and hard to get into at first. However by the end of part one i could tell things were escalating, and this caught my attention. I found it odd that the little girl and her family just went missing. After talking to my group and a few saying that she may not be dead made me wonder if she was. However i still think the government had something to do with the sudden move of the family. When the fire chief was talking to Guy he said that normally they are easy to nip the at the bud at a young age but people like her are rare and dangerous. This i believe shows that the government in Fahrenheit 451 is scared of an educated society. When Beatty was talking about the cradle to school it just shows that they are being controlled at a young age, so this way it makes the people blind and hard for them to resist. Now i see why the woman wanted to burn with her books. It seemed to me it was more than just books but her way of life. Without her books it was like shed have no identity. If you read books it seems to give you a personality, one the government did not like. If you don't read you will not obtain one, like Mildred; just as dead as the firehouses "dog."

Though i am late i figured later is better than never to write this weeks blog. I found the ending of this book perplexing. I don't think one can change that fast. I would understand it of he was going to have a child and had to make changes for that, but wanting one is a whole different story. I believe reforming a criminal is possible but its going to be different with each criminal because not everyone of us think a like. I had no remorse for Alex through out the end had had little hope for him actually committing and doing the work it would take to change. I just don't seem him changing i would like to but if he wanted to changed i think he wouldn't have wanted to change so drastically.

Clockwork thoughts and inclass dicussion.

Today in class we spoke of things we agreed on as well as disagreed on. One thing stuck out at me and that was number 10. It said that music education and sports could help refine those who had been in trouble or such the like. I strongly agree with this. I'm a coach at Kennard Dale. I coach the cross country team (not being head coach just assistant) and I see some real aggression in some of the kids, some of them had ISS a lot and what not (Not all of them just about 3). Now they couldn't run because of penalties like that but I saw they were frustrated even more because they couldn't run. I see the good in these kids and when they run they are care free and happy, they cant wait to get out of school to run. Its therapeutic to them as to me. Though Ive been dubbed "the running Nazi" Coach Jeff said they had taken a real liking to me and run better when I'm out with them ( I don't let them curse, and if they do I make them do hell hill sprints, Ive heard they catch themselves and stop cursing even with out me around. I think its all due to the running.). A boost to my ego yes, but I like to seem them happy and if they couldn't run I ponder where would the spend their aggression and angst? I feel its a great outlet because even after they run and cool down they are mellow for the rest of the day. I would strongly agree with this indubitably. I really think that running can refine people. I believe that Alex really does regret his actions, one would have to be a cold heartless human being to not worry about such upon reflection of their actions. I believe Alex was misguided, he did make the choice to rob the old woman but never wanted to kill her, and for a brief moment when he was told he killed her there seemed a bit of remorse. Also taking a liking to the bible/ religion can possibly show some good in his character yet, though his odd thoughts and dreams of religion were strange.

Feed post

There was one test answer that really made me think. It was the essay of our feed test. I myself used the first quote about going out into the nature to see if he had ever truly lived. The combine quote of the feed quote and this made my mind stir. Are we the feed? What are we being feed? Have I myself truly lived? Though we do not have implants in our heads, which you can not simply say enough to and leave be; we are feed through TV ads, billboards, or subliminal messages. We are like cattle and that's what frightened me the most. Most do what we are told being pushed and streamed through cattle shoots to our slaughter. In other words that slaughter is our will being taken from us, or at least that's how I see it. This not so much blend into what I'm saying but I saw that McDonald's is the official sponsor of the Olympics. Not one of my friends understood why I laughed at that. It was like a good joke. Fat greasy food with healthy bodies? That's a little off. Is Mc'ie-D's trying to make them selves look good or were the Olympics just hurting that bad for a rich sponsor? I doubt its the latter. Aside from that small rant, I do believe most people have not lived. I live on a tiny little farm in a tiny typical 1950s black and white town as I said earlier, and in no offense to any one when I say this; however I think Ive live more than most people on campus other than the adventure club that is. I have pictures from the top of every mountain that surrounds Ship and Carlie. I Camp regularly, even in the winter I go camping, and to me that's fun. I'm just a farm boy having a good time. Its how I was raised. However most people tell me that "you're crazy man" or "are you insane?" Aside from that Ive been doing an experiment. I leave my cell phone at my apartment before I go to class, this way I don't become to dependant on it or technology. The results are that I focus more I'm not in a hurry to get out of class as much, I am more at ease. Its very enjoyable, I believe that all my peers should try it. I do not think that once you give your mind to the media that they will ever give it back. Its exactly like Feed. Once you have the implant you cant remove it without dieing. In my opinion Violet was very lucky to not get one until she was seven. Noticing this and how its shocking close to real life I hope that I will be able to not give in to any sort of "Feed" and keep an open mind to all ads, and not fall victim to the media and corporations. My one friend now says "I play video games for the story." He use to be a avid reader, just like myself. Its sad to see how he sits infront of the TV and wont budge from his controler. I still love reading and dont think ill be part of that huge video game craze, at least not until they come out with a W.B. Yeats video game.

Media and ads and how we soak them up like dry sponges .

When asked the question in class am I a/ the target market? I would say yes, and i would safely assume that not just me but every single person is. When I flip through my magazine Super Street (an import tuner mag.) I see ads for everything for your car. Now I own two cars, one is my EG Civic coupe with a D16z6/ y8 hybrid motor, and no its not the gas saver kind; more like the Mustang/ muscle car killer kind. The other is my daily driver, a Toyota Camry. When I flip through Super Street I see all kinds of ads, Turbonetics T3-T04 ball bearing turbos, or Endless Racing coilovers or Falken performance tires. I seem them, and though I may not need them I want, no; i have to have them because Vaughn "Jr." Gittin uses them when he drift races? As absurd as it may sound its true. The worst is that the market may as well say you need this, and like hypnotized puppets of the industry we say in a monotonously voice "We need this." I saw an ad in one of my older Tuner mags. that said "Only the winners WIN the girls." The picture showed a pro drift racer with a whole bunch of girls around him and in the corner of the page you see four fresh new tires, on nice new shiny rims. Now prior to this class I would never have noticed nor would I have really cared about it. However now I see that this ad is saying become live everyone else, fit in, use our product and you'll become a hit with the ladies. Not only that but it was selling the product with sex. "You want a hot girl in your life, well you never will unless you become one of our drones and buy our tires. The girls will flock to you if you do." Is what I got out of that ad. Needless to say I am not a fan. My girlfriend doesn't like me because I use Toyo performance tires on my Civic. Not at all she likes me for me. So after noticing this I flipped through the magazine again and noticed I liked the simple and to the point ads. There is an ad with just the product name and the product, nothing sexual, no hidden phrases. What I use to think was not appealing at all I find now it is the most enjoyable. I believe that if we could get more people notice this themselves then ads will tone down the sex and discrimination. I could be wrong but I hope I'm right. This makes me think again of that tiny town I love and grew up in. There was never any of this when I was a kid, so I think I was saved or at least prolonged from most of the brain washing that has been going on for years. Only in simplicity can we live easier more laid back lives. Why clutter everything with ads and things we think we need but have no use for?
